Insendi Resources in Canvas Courses
This article explains how the 'Launch' button works and how it allows you to decide whether to include certain resources from a previously paired course with Insendi when copying a Canvas course and creating a new one.
This option not only appears after copying a course, but it is also displayed after you export or import content from a course in Canvas to another existing one in the same environment.
After copying a course
The copy process of an existing course in Canvas implies the creation of a new one also in Canvas.
If that is what you need, to make a copy of a course in Canvas and include the resources you want, the first step is to make sure that its content is already paired with your Insendi Plugin course, and then, go to the settings of that original course. On the right of the course settings, find the ‘Copy this course' option and click on it. Enter the details for the new copied course, and after pressing the 'Create course' button that is at the bottom of the page, the copy process will start.
After completing the copy, when you go to the 'Modules' section of the copied course and select one of the pages or items that are within that module, you will see an option, the 'Launch' button, that allows you to decide if you want to duplicate the resources of the original course.
Once you click that button, the content of the original course that is paired with the Insendi course will be added to the page as a copy of all the resources you want from the Insendi Plugin that were not included when making the course copy in Canvas. So, both the original and the copied course in Canvas will be referenced to two different courses in the Insendi Plugin.
This also helps prevent that, if you want to delete the original course in the Insendi Plugin for some reason, the course and resources copied in Canvas will not be removed, and the duplicate content will remain.
Apart from that, you will be able to modify, edit, change, add or remove whatever you need in one of these two original courses, and neither of the other original courses nor the copy one will be affected.
After exporting and importing course content
If, instead of creating a new Canvas course by copying an existing one, you want to export and import content from one course into another already existing Canvas course without creating a new course, and include the resources from the original one, you can use the options available in the course settings of both the source and the destination courses for the export and import.
Once in the settings of the source course, click on the option Export Course Content located on the right-hand side. This will take you to a new page where you can begin the export process. Once the export is complete, you will be able to download the .imscc file, which you will later use to import the content into the destination course.
Next, go to the destination course, open its settings, and select the 'Import Course Content' option. In the 'Select Content Type' dropdown menu, choose Canvas Course Export Package, and then upload the file you previously downloaded.
Finally, click Add to Import Queue. Once the import process is completed, go to Modules, open any page, and click the 'Launch' button.
