RTE toolbar
The Insendi RTE toolbar (rich text editor) can be found in the pages; when the 'Edit mode' toggle is enabled, the RTE toolbar is displayed. This enables formatting content, inserting media, organizing text on the page, and adding activities, helping you create engaging and visually appealing material more easily.
In this article, we’ll explore the features available in the Insendi RTE toolbar. While it includes the standard text editing functions common to most editors, it also offers more advanced and not-so-common tools. These last ones will be the focus of our detailed walkthrough.
The file weight limit is 300 megabytes for the 'Attach file' and 'Recorder' options, while for the 'Image' and 'Attach audio file' options, the weight limit is 50 megabytes.
The following file types are allowed for the 'Attach file' option: Word (.doc, .docx), Excel (.xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xltx), and OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods).
Highlight
This RTE functionality supports the highlighting of text. You can select from 6 different colours, and when needed, you can remove the highlight colour by entering the icon again and clicking on the 'Clear' option.
Insert table
From this RTE toolbar dropdown option, you can insert a table with a default 2x2 layout and gray header cells. Rows and columns can be easily added or removed. To edit or delete the table, activate edit mode and click on it to access the dropdown menu.
Insert tabs
Clicking this option inserts a default set of two tabs, each with a title and content box. You can add or remove individual tabs or the entire set. The open tab at the time of saving will remain visible, while others stay collapsed. To edit or delete tabs, switch to edit mode and click on the tab to open the dropdown menu.
Insert accordion
Clicking on the 'Insert accordion' option will add two default sections, each with a gray title and text body. You can freely add or remove sections. As with tabs, each section appears exactly as saved—open or closed—allowing flexible control over what students see.
Video
To insert a video, simply click on “Change URL” and paste the video link. You can adjust the aspect ratio to either 16:9 (1920×1080) or 4:3 (1024×768), depending on your preference.
This option of the RTE only supports you to add Dacast, YouTube, Vimeo, Vimeo showcase, Panopto video, or Kaltura videos into your content.
However, Vimeo allows users to download the videos you publish, while DaCast does not.
Download permissions related to the Vimeo videos can be configured in the Tenant Settings under the Add-ons tab. If the toggle in this tab is on but the Vimeo video doesn't have downloads enabled on its platform, the option won’t be available.
Image
Clicking the image icon will prompt you to upload an image. Once inserted into the editor, you can resize it by dragging its corners.
Below the image, a text field will automatically appear containing the file name. This field serves as alternative text (alt text), which you can customize by clicking on it and entering your preferred description. After updating the alt text, click Save.
The image will now be embedded in your content, and the alternative text will be invisible to viewers.
Add Activity
With this option of the RTE gives you access to the activity library, where you can explore a variety of interactive activities.
To learn about each activity type—how they are created, configured, and managed—please visit the Insendi activities section.
Mathjax expression
This feature improves both the accessibility and readability of mathematical content on page. It enables seamless integration of mathematical notation and symbols into HTML documents, offering a clean and visually appealing display.
MathJax supports multiple markup languages—including LaTeX, MathML, and AsciiMath—making it a flexible and powerful tool for rendering mathematical expressions in various formats across different platforms and devices.
Code
With this final option of the RTE toolbar, you can incorporate code snippets in various programming languages, enhancing the visual appeal of the content.
