Understanding the different roles

This summary chart shows the different types of permissions you can have on the platform. Depending on the role assigned, you will be more or less allowed for the following tasks:

Full access

Partner Admins have full permissions on all of the tasks below.

Adding team members

Programme Leaders can add any role to their programmes and courses within the Programme, except from Programme/Course Builders.

Programme Assistants can add any role to the courses within the Programme, apart from Course Builders. This role is not visible to students on the Programme 'Team' tab.

Programme Builders can add Course builders to the courses in the Programme. *Note: Only a Partner Admin can add Programme Builders.

Course leaders can add Course leaders, Course tutors, Course assistants and Course auditors to their courses. They cannot add Course builders.

Course assistants can add Course tutors and auditors.

Enrolling students

Programme Leaders can enrol students in their programmes and courses within the Programme.

Programme Assistants can enrol students in their programmes and courses within the Programme. This role is not visible to students.

Course leaders can enrol students in their courses.

Course assistants can enrol students in their courses.

Editing content

Programme Builders can edit content in their programmes, and courses within the Programme. They are also able to edit activities.

Course builders can edit content and activities in their courses.

Grading submissions and giving feedback

Programme Leaders can grade and give feedback in their programmes, and courses within the Programme.

Programme Assistants can grade and give feedback in the programmes and courses within the Programme. This role is not visible to students on the 'Programme Team' page. (If a Programme Assistant grades an activity and provides feedback, their name and profile photo will show up next to the title 'Instructor'. Participants cannot click to view their profile). 

Course leaders can grade and give feedback in their courses as well as edit the grade/feedback even after the grades have been released.

Course builders can grade and give feedback in their courses as well as edit the grade/feedback even after the grades have been released but only in Legacy Activities.

Course tutors can also grade and give feedback in their courses as well as edit the grade/feedback even after the grades have been released.

Reviewing content

Programme and Course auditors can review content in the courses, without being able to edit it. Given that auditors have read rights, they are also allowed to view student submissions and grades.

 

*Note: Programme Leaders/Builders and Course leaders/builders can also create test submissions and delete them.

Here is a more detailed explanation of the platform roles and the permissions you can have in the programmes and courses: 

1. Partner Admin

Access

  • The Partner Admin can see all programmes and courses on the Partner platform.

Adding users

  • The Partner Admin has the ability to add additional users to any programmes or courses on the Partner platform.

Editing

  • The Partner Admin is the only role that can create new programmes and assign 'Programme Lead' roles.

  • The Partner Admin has full editing access to all.

  • The Partner Admin has the ability to copy and delete courses.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Partner Admin can see student data including content submitted against activities and grades/feedback.

 

2. Programme Leader

Access

  • The Programme Leader has the ability to see all courses attached to the Programme they have been added to.

Adding users

  • The Programme Leader has the ability to add additional users to 'Programme and Course' roles (except Programme/Course Builders).

  • The Programme Leader has the ability to enrol students.

Editing 

  • The Programme Leader has the ability to edit the content of the courses or programmes they have been added to. A Programme Leader does not have the ability to create new Weeks/Screens or to copy existing Weeks/Screens, they are also not able to edit activities inside a Course. However, in an already existing screen, it is possible to edit the content within it and add activities.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Programme Leader can see student data including content submitted against activities and grades/feedback.

 

3. Programme Assistant (not visible to students)

Access

  • The Programme Assistant has the ability to see all courses attached to the Programme they have been added to.

Adding users

  • The Programme Assistant has the ability to add additional users to Course roles (except Course builders).

  • The Programme Assistant has the ability to enrol students.

Editing 

  • The Programme Assistant has the ability to edit the content of the courses or programmes they have been added to. A Programme Assistant does not have the ability to create new Weeks/Screens or to copy existing Weeks/Screens, but they are able to edit the content within a Screen and add new activities, although they can’t access its settings.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Programme Assistant can see student data including content submitted against activities and grades/feedback.

 

4. Programme Builder

Access

  • The Programme Builder has the ability to see all the courses attached to the Programme(s) they have been added to.

Adding users

  • The Programme Builder has no ability to enrol students. 

  • The Programme Builder has the ability to add Course builders only.

  • The Programme Builder has the ability to create 'Class list' groups.

Editing 

  • The Programme Builder has the ability to edit any course attached to the Programme(s) they have been added.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Programme Builder can not see student data submitted against activities and therefore, also does not have access to grades/feedback. 

 

5. Programme Auditor

Access

  • The Programme Auditor has the ability to see all the courses attached to the Programme(s) they have been added to.

Adding users

  • The Programme Auditor has no ability to enrol students. 

  • The Programme Auditor has no ability to add other Programme or Course Team members.

  • The Programme Auditor has no ability to create 'Class list' groups.

Editing 

  • The Programme Auditor has no ability to edit.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Programme Auditor has only read access to student data submitted against Activities. 

 

6. Course leader

Access

  • The Course leader has the ability to see all courses they have been added to. 

Adding users

  • The Course leader has the ability to add additional Course leaders, Course tutors, Course assistants or Course auditors.

  • The Course leader has the ability to enrol students.

Editing 

  • The Course leader has the ability to edit the content of the courses they have been added to. A Course leader does not have the ability to create new Weeks/Screens, copy existing Weeks/Screens or delete Weeks/Screens. They are also not able to edit Activities within a Course.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Course leader can see student data including content submitted against Activities and grades/feedback.

 

7. Course builder

Access

  • The Course builder has the ability to see all courses they have been added to.

Adding users

  • The Course builder cannot add or enrol any other user. However, they can create new groups and switch students from one group to another.

Editing 

  • The Course builder has the ability to edit the courses they have been added to.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Course builder can see the student data submitted against Legacy Activities, but cannot see student submissions on Activities that use the 'next' framework. The builder also has access to grades/feedback in legacy Activities only.

 

8. Course tutor

Access

  • The Course tutor has the ability to see all courses they have been added to.

Adding users

  • The Course tutor cannot add or enrol any other user. 

Editing 

  • The Course tutor has the ability to edit the content of the courses they have been added to. A Course tutor does not have the ability to create new Weeks/Screens, copy existing Weeks/Screens or delete Weeks/Screens.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Course tutor can see student data submitted against Activities and has also access to grades/feedback.

 

9. Course auditor

Access

  • The Course auditor has the ability to see all the courses they have been added to. 

Adding users

  • The Course auditor has no ability to add or enrol any other user. 

Editing 

  • The Course auditor has no ability to edit. 

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Course auditor has only read access to student data submitted against Activities. 

 

10. Course assistant (not visible to students)

Access

  • The Course assistant has the ability to see all the courses they have been added to. 

Adding users

  • The Course assistant has the ability to enrol students. 

  • The Course assistant has the ability to add Course tutors and auditors.

  • The Course assistant has the ability to create 'Class list' groups.

Editing 

  • The Course assistant has no ability to edit. 

Data access (GDPR)

  • The Course assistant can see student data submitted against activities and also can have access to grades/feedback. 

 

11. Student

Access

  • The student has the ability to see all courses they have been added to.

Adding users

  • The student has no ability to add or enrol any other user.

Editing 

  • The student has no ability to edit.

Data access (GDPR)

  • The student has only read access to student data submitted against Activities.
